Vintage Typewriter Rental in Spain: A Practical Event Guide

A vintage typewriter can become a wedding guestbook, a live poetry station, a film prop, a retail installation or the centrepiece everyone photographs — each purpose calls for a different machine and a different setup.

This guide covers what to decide before you reserve: who will use the machine, where it will stand, how it will travel, and whether visual authenticity or typing comfort leads the choice.

Begin With the Purpose

What Will the Typewriter Do?

The rarest machine is not always the right one. Start with the role, then match the model.

Interactive Guestbook

Guests type their own messages. Choose straightforward controls, a readable typeface, a familiar keyboard layout and a machine that sits solidly on the table.

Live Writing Experience

A working poet types for hours. Typing comfort, keyboard language and the writer's own preference lead the decision here.

Film and Television

Period, country and character decide the model. Tell us the camera action — typed on screen, carried, opened, or background dressing.

Fashion and Editorial

Colour, finish, typography and silhouette lead. We advise on which pieces photograph best and travel well to location.

Retail, Hotels and Display

Decide whether customers may type or whether the machine is a display piece. That single answer changes which models we offer.

Multiple Stations

A group can be coordinated by decade, colour or brand without being identical — often a better look than five of the same machine.

  5. Indoors, outdoors, or moved during the project?

Setting Up a Typewriter Station

  • A firm table at writing height, with its own space away from the bar and buffet.
  • A chair, if guests will write more than a line or two.
  • A short instruction card beside the machine — three lines is enough.
  • Spare paper within arm's reach.
  • Light good enough to read the page and the keys.
  • At a busy event, a second station keeps the queue moving.

Styles and Periods

Examples From Our Collection

  • Italian design: Olivetti Lettera, Studio and Valentine
  • German engineering: Olympia, Adler, Triumph and Erika
  • Swiss machines: Hermes Baby, Media and 3000

Brief Us Like a Prop Department

Send the story year, country, character, scene, shooting dates and any reference images — the more specific the brief, the closer the match.

Keyboard layout and model year read clearly on camera, so we confirm period accuracy with you before the machine is reserved.

How the Machines Arrive

Serviced Before Every Rental

Each machine is cleaned, adjusted and test-typed in our Fuengirola workshop before it leaves. For outdoor settings we suggest a covered, dry spot and recommend a model suited to the conditions.

If you would like to know how these machines are looked after between projects, our care guide covers it in a few minutes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Practical Rental Questions

Is paper included?

Basic paper is arranged with your quotation. Special colours, sizes, letterheads and branded stationery can be prepared with advance notice.

Can guests type without any experience?

Yes. A simple machine, a short instruction card and a well-placed table make it work for complete beginners — most guests need about ten seconds.

Can several matching typewriters be supplied?

We coordinate groups by colour, decade, brand or general style. Tell us the number of stations and we will build the set from what is available.

How far in advance should we book?

The earlier the better for a specific model or a multi-station setup. Send us the date and we will tell you straight away what is open.

Do you deliver, or do we collect?

Both. Collection in Fuengirola is straightforward; delivery, setup and return transport across Spain are quoted with your project.

Latest Review

"I had a wonderful experience with El Granero, which must surely rank among the best typewriter companies in Europe, if not the best! Ania and Jacek were encouraging from the beginning and kindly invited me to visit their lovely Atelier in Fuengirola. Although very busy with orders, they prioritised my selection and got it ready in a matter of hours so I could take it with me. All in all it was a terrific experience, and when I want to add to my collection, it will certainly be at El Granero. Thank you Ania and Jacek!"

Testimonio Local

"Por suerte descubrí El Granero Typewriter, donde fui atendido con profesionalidad y amabilidad por Jacek y Ania. Restauraron mi Olivetti Estudio 45, máquina muy especial para mí, ya que fue un regalo de mis padres. Además les compré una Olivetti Lettera 32 en perfecto estado. Más allá de la restauración y la compra, aprendes escuchando a Jacek y Ania. Les estoy muy agradecido."
