Typewriter Warranty

Typewriter warranty

Workshop care,
beyond the first page.

We want you to enjoy your typewriter long after it leaves our workbench. Here is how to activate your cover, understand what is included and reach us when something needs attention.

From our workshop in Fuengirola, southern Spain.

Your warranty

Clear cover from the beginning.

The warranty period applicable to your machine is stated clearly before purchase. If no shorter warranty is stated, our standard one-year commercial warranty applies.

Only when clearly stated

90 days, limited.

Some pre-war, rare or delicate typewriters need gentler use, and spare parts can be difficult to find. Where we state “3-month limited warranty”, cover lasts 90 days from delivery.

These machines are intended for occasional letters, notes and light typing, following our guidance. They are not intended for heavy daily use.

If a problem develops during the warranty period while the machine is being used as recommended, contact us. We will assess the issue and help with the next step.

Your first week together

A quick hello.
Your warranty activated.

Within seven days of delivery, use the form below to confirm that your typewriter has arrived in good working order. This activates the worldwide commercial cover applicable to your machine.

If anything is wrong, do not activate the warranty as “working correctly”. Use the Report an Issue form instead so we can help.

1

Check your machine

Unpack carefully and check its condition and typing. Keep the packaging while you check everything.

2

Have your order number ready

Use the same order number from your purchase confirmation. Your email lets our workshop identify and reply to your activation.

3

Confirm it arrived working

Only tick the confirmation if you have checked the typewriter after delivery and it is working correctly.

What your cover includes

The working parts.
The details that matter.

Our commercial warranty covers faults in materials or workmanship during your applicable warranty period, when the machine is used according to our guidance. Repair of covered faults is free of charge. Vintage character and everyday wear are different from a mechanical defect.

Covered mechanisms

  • Main spring, internal springs and levers.
  • Typeface and keystroke mechanisms.
  • Carriage return, shift and escapement.
  • Margins and spacing functions.
  • Ribbon vibrator and ribbon advance.
  • Missing or displaced parts that were included and shown at the time of purchase.

Outside this commercial cover

  • Damage from accidents, misuse, neglect, theft, improper care or storage, including heavy daily use of a machine sold for occasional light typing.
  • Normal wear, routine cleaning, ribbons and spools.
  • Rubber feet, platens, feed rollers and bumpers.
  • Metal or chrome parts, varnish, decals, old paint, and plastic or glass keytops.
  • Problems caused by incorrect ribbon installation or unsuitable accessories.
  • Unauthorised repairs or alterations. Please contact us before another workshop intervenes.

Unsure whether a problem is covered? Send us the details. We can assess the machine and explain the next step. Delivery damage has its own reporting process below.

Talk to the workshop

Something doesn’t feel right?

Whether your machine has one-year or 90-day limited cover, contact us as soon as you notice a problem during its warranty period. You do not have to wait until you know the technical name for it.

1. Pause and protect the machine

Stop using it if there is a mechanical problem. Forcing a part or continuing to type can cause further damage.

2. Describe the issue clearly

Include your order number and explain what happens. Photos or a short video may help us afterwards if we need to inspect the issue remotely.

3. Let us agree the next step

We may guide you remotely or arrange an authorised inspection or repair. Please wait for our instructions before sending the machine or approving work elsewhere.

We aim to respond within 24–48 hours and resolve claims within seven business days. Complex cases, parts, transport or an inspection can take longer. If we receive no reply for 30 days, we may close an unresolved support case.

Report an Issue

Use this form when the typewriter has a mechanical problem or something is not working as expected.

If the journey was not kind

Arrived with damage?

Let us know promptly. Our shipments are insured for their declared value against loss or major transit damage, and we will help you through the claim.

Report it quickly.

Email us within 24–72 hours where possible, and report any transport-related defect within seven days of delivery.

  • Photograph the machine, damage, shipping label and packaging.
  • Keep all packaging and notify the courier on delivery if possible.
  • Send us your order number and the photos. Follow any requests for evidence or inspection.

We will coordinate the appropriate repair, replacement or compensation process with the courier or insurer. Your rights under applicable consumer law remain unaffected.

A few useful answers

Before you get in touch.

From gifts to an extra year of cover, here are the questions that often come up.

What if I missed the activation form?

You can still contact us for online technical support. Send your order details and we will explain the support available for your machine.

Your rights under applicable consumer law are not affected by missing the activation step.

Can the warranty cover a gift?

The commercial warranty is for the purchaser or an adult recipient agreed with us. If the typewriter is a gift, arrange the transfer with us before purchasing. Other changes of ownership are outside this commercial cover.

Should I send the typewriter back?

Contact us first. We will confirm whether a return is needed, where to send it, how to pack it and the shipping arrangements before anything is dispatched.

Please do not arrange an unauthorised repair.

Can I add another year of cover?

Contact us before purchase to check which extended cover, if any, is available for your machine, its fee and its terms.

Where offered, our one-year extension starts immediately after the original warranty ends and covers parts and labour for faults in materials or workmanship.

Ask about extended cover →

What if a limited-warranty machine has a problem?

If an issue develops within the 90-day period while you have used the machine properly, for the occasional light typing we recommended, use the Report an Issue form above.

We will assess what has happened and help with the next step. Stop using the machine if there is a mechanical problem, and speak with us before attempting a repair or asking another workshop to intervene.

Can you help after the warranty ends?

Please get in touch with the model and a description of the issue. We can discuss the technical support or repair options available and confirm any cost before you decide to proceed.

"I had a wonderful experience with El Granero, which must surely rank among the best typewriter companies in Europe, if not the best! Ania and Jacek were encouraging from the beginning and kindly invited me to visit their lovely Atelier in Fuengirola. Although very busy with orders, they prioritised my selection and got it ready in a matter of hours so I could take it with me. All in all it was a terrific experience, and when I want to add to my collection, it will certainly be at El Granero. Thank you Ania and Jacek!"

Testimonio Local

"Por suerte descubrí El Granero Typewriter, donde fui atendido con profesionalidad y amabilidad por Jacek y Ania. Restauraron mi Olivetti Estudio 45, máquina muy especial para mí, ya que fue un regalo de mis padres. Además les compré una Olivetti Lettera 32 en perfecto estado. Más allá de la restauración y la compra, aprendes escuchando a Jacek y Ania. Les estoy muy agradecido."
