Onderhouds- en verzorgingsgids voor typemachines
Houd uw typemachine schoon, droog, afgedekt en soepel draaiend. Gebruik het juiste lint en papier, en forceer nooit een mechanisme dat weerstand biedt.
De essentie
Kleine gewoontes voorkomen de meeste problemen.
Een gerestaureerde handmatige typemachine heeft normaal gesproken minder ingrepen nodig dan men denkt. De meeste vermijdbare schade ontstaat door vochtige opslag, vuil gemengd met oude smeermiddelen, het verkeerde chemische middel of door extra kracht uit te oefenen op een onderdeel dat al weerstand biedt.

Houd het droog
Drankjes, vochtigheid, vochtige muren en plotselinge temperatuurwisselingen zijn veel gevaarlijker dan dagelijks gebruik.

Borstel stof weg
Verwijder stof, papiervezels en gumkruimels voordat ze zich vermengen met oude olie in het mechanisme.

Gebruik de bedieningselementen
Gebruik de wagenontkoppeling wanneer u de wagen met de hand verplaatst. Duw niet tegen het echappement.

Dek het schoon af
Bescherm de machine na gebruik met de koffer of een goed passende hoes, nadat alles schoon en droog is.

Forceer nooit
Een vastgelopen toets, hendel, wagen of knop is een diagnostische aanwijzing. Meer kracht is zelden de oplossing.
Gouden regel: eerst schoonmaken, smeer alleen als er een vastgestelde reden voor is, en stop wanneer een mechanisme weerstand biedt.
Schoonmaken
Begin droog en voorzichtig.
Voor dagelijks onderhoud zijn een zachte borstel, een schone microvezeldoek en geduld meestal voldoende. Een licht vochtige doek kan geschikt zijn voor sommige buitenoppervlakken, maar vintage lak, emblemen, kunststoffen en toetsaanduidingen reageren verschillend.
Toetsen en behuizing
Veeg voorzichtig. Maak naden, openingen, emblemen of toetsaanduidingen nooit nat en test elk middel op een onopvallende plek.
Lettertypes
Borstel opgehoopte inkt en papiervezels langzaam weg zodat de typearmen niet verbogen of bekrast raken.
Binnenkant
Gebruik eerst een zachte borstel. Als u lucht gebruikt, houd de druk dan laag en gecontroleerd zodat vuil niet dieper wordt geblazen.
Vermijd
Gebruik geen WD-40, siliconenspray, kruipolie, aceton of sterke allesreinigers voor routineonderhoud.
Lint, papier & rol
Wees voorzichtig met het aanslagsysteem.
Een vage afdruk betekent meestal dat het lint droog is, onjuist is ingevoerd of op de verkeerde kleurinstelling staat. Harder op de toetsen slaan lost de oorzaak niet op en verhoogt de slijtage.
Lint
Vervang het als de afdruk vervaagt. Controleer of het correct door de vibrator loopt en of het omkeermechanisme vrij beweegt.
Originele spoelen
Sommige machines vereisen hun originele metalen spoelen. Bewaar deze en wikkel indien nodig vers lint op de spoelen.
Rol en invoerrollen
Door ouderdom kan rubber hard, glanzend of ongelijkmatig worden. Gebruik altijd papier en voeg een extra vel toe als de rol erg hard aanvoelt.
Smering
Minder is meer.
Een typemachine is niet iets om op een kalender gebaseerd te oliën. Trage typearmen duiden vaak op vuil of opgedroogde resten, niet op een tekort aan olie. Het segment moet normaal gesproken schoon en droog blijven.
- Spuit nooit smeermiddel in het mechanisme.
- Houd olie uit de buurt van het lint, de rol, de invoerrollen, riemen en het papierpad.
- Eerst schoonmaken en diagnosticeren; gebruik slechts een fractie van geschikte olie op een bekend wrijvingspunt.
- Als verhard vet, geknars, herhaaldelijk overslaan of stroefheid aanhoudt, hoort de oorzaak thuis op de werkbank.
Opslag & vervoer
Stabiel, droog en uit direct zonlicht.
Een koffer beschermt de machine tijdens transport; een goed passende hoes beschermt deze tussen typbeurten door. Geen van beide mag vocht vasthouden. Houd de machine aan de kust binnenshuis, uit de buurt van open ramen en buitenmuren die vocht opnemen.
Tussen sessies door
- Borstel zichtbaar vuil weg.
- Dek alleen af wanneer de machine droog is.
- Houd drankjes en planten uit de buurt.
- Typ regelmatig en let vroegtijdig op veranderingen.
Opslag op lange termijn
- Verwijder het papier.
- Volg de originele handleiding voor de instellingen van de papierontkoppeling en de wagenvergrendeling.
- Draag een draagbare machine niet aan het koffervergrendeling totdat de koffer en sluitingen zijn gecontroleerd.
- Inspecteer de machine na transport voordat u enige bediening forceert.

Wanneer stoppen
Sommige problemen horen op de werkbank.
Een wagen die niet vooruitgaat kan verschillende oorzaken hebben: een transportvergrendeling, een marge-instelling, een kapotte trekband, verlies van spanning in de hoofdveer of een probleem met het echappement. Behandel het symptoom als een aanwijzing in plaats van uit te gaan van één universele reparatie.
Stop met doe-het-zelven als
- Een onderdeel krast, herhaaldelijk overslaat of verbogen aanvoelt.
- De trekband gebroken is of de hoofdveer spanning heeft verloren.
- De papierinvoer niet meer grip heeft.
- Een hendel, knop of onderdeel is gebarsten of losgeraakt.

Neem contact met ons op voordat u de machine opent of demonteert. Gerestaureerde machines zijn normaal gesproken inclusief onze garantie van één jaar; zeldzame of delicate antieke machines kunnen een beperkte garantie van 90 dagen hebben indien dit in de vermelding staat.

Hoe vaak moet een typemachine onderhouden worden?
Er is geen universele kalender. Laat de machine onderhouden wanneer de werking verandert, na schok- of transportschade, bij aanwezigheid van corrosie of oud vet, of wanneer afstellingen en onderdelen betrokken zijn.
Moet ik mijn typemachine regelmatig oliën?
Nee. Eerst schoonmaken en diagnosticeren. Olie alleen een specifiek wrijvingspunt wanneer er een goede reden voor is en u de juiste locatie kent.
Kan ik WD-40 of een algemene spray gebruiken?
Niet voor routineonderhoud. Sprays verspreiden zich, trekken vuil aan en zijn moeilijk onder controle te houden rond lak, rubber, het echappement en het segment.
Hoe vaak moet ik het lint vervangen?
Vervang het wanneer de afdruk vervaagt nadat u de kleurkeuze en het invoerpad heeft gecontroleerd. De levensduur van een lint hangt af van gebruik, materiaal en opslag, niet van een vast aantal maanden.
Is één vel papier voldoende?
Meestal wel, maar een tweede vel als achtergrond biedt nuttige demping wanneer een oudere rol hard is geworden. Typ nooit direct op een onbedekte rol.

In 2021 I had bought a beautiful Olympia Traveler de Luxe...it looked like new. Between moving from one country to another and place to place I was finally able to bring it with me. El Granero does a fine job. I once had two rare typewriters of the same make and model. Both had problems. However, they were able to fashion one working and complete Groma Kolibri typewriter to me. I was on holiday in southern Spain shortly after the work was complete. he went out of his way to deliver the machine to our hotel. superb service everytime I have worked with El Granero typewriter.company.
