Collezione: Typewriters for Decor & Display

Buying a typewriter to look at is a perfectly good reason to buy a typewriter. We would only ask that it still works. A machine that types is a machine somebody will eventually type on a guest, a child, you at two in the morning and the difference in cost between a working machine and a dead one is smaller than the difference in how it feels to own. Everything on this page has been serviced. None of it is a prop.

What to look for

Size, measured against the shelf it is going on; people consistently underestimate a desktop machine. Whether the colour is original or refinished changes both the look and the price, and we always state that. Case or no case. And light: sunlight fades keytops and dries rubber, so a machine in a south-facing window will age faster than one across the room.

A dust cover is the least romantic accessory we sell and the one that saves the most machines.

What restoration means here

The same work as every other machine here. Dismantled, cleaned, adjusted, oiled, fresh ribbon, test-typed. We do not sell decorative machines to a lower standard, because the phrase "for display only" is usually doing a lot of work to hide something.

Where we have refinished a machine — new colour, plating, custom paint it is described as our work, not as original. One-year warranty on everything, whether you type on it or not.
