If you are uncertain, you can preserve most of the surprise while quietly asking about favourite colours, preferred writing language, desk space or whether they like compact or substantial vintage objects.

Seven Details You Must Consider
Open each section before choosing a machine.
1. Keyboard Language and Layout
The keyboard must suit the language in which the recipient intends to write. Depending on availability, layouts may include English QWERTY, Spanish QWERTY with Ñ, AZERTY, QWERTZ, QZERTY and others.
QWERTY does not automatically mean an American or British keyboard.
2. Intended Use
Occasional letters, journaling and poetry may suit a compact portable. Daily writing or a long project normally requires greater stability and comfort.
3. Portable, Semi-Portable or Desktop
A compact portable is easier to move and store. A semi-portable provides additional stability. A desktop machine can offer an excellent writing platform but requires permanent space.
4. Pica, Elite or Special Typeface
Pica normally produces wider, traditional-looking text. Elite creates smaller, more compact text. Rare cursive and special typefaces can make a gift more distinctive but may significantly affect the price.
Ask for a typing sample when the appearance of the text matters.
5. Keyboard Touch and Physical Comfort
Some machines feel light and quick. Others feel firm and deliberate. A smaller machine does not automatically require less finger pressure.
6. Colour, Design and Period
Colour and design can make a gift deeply personal. However, a beautiful machine should still have the appropriate keyboard, size and writing characteristics.
7. Restoration and Individual Condition
Two examples of the same model can feel completely different. Mechanical adjustment, platen condition, rollers, alignment and previous storage all affect the final experience.

Depending on the selected service and availability, gift preparation can include decorative wrapping, ribbon and seal, a typed dedication or poem, a test page, certificate and care information.
Decorative presentation never replaces the internal protection required for safe transport. The typewriter must still be immobilized and packed correctly inside its shipping box.

Is a portable always the best gift?
No. A semi-portable may provide a more stable and comfortable experience when the machine will remain on a desk.
Can I choose only by colour?
Colour can narrow the selection, but keyboard layout, condition and intended use must also be considered.
Can the typeface be changed later?
Not like a digital font. The typeface is physically built into the typebars. Choose a machine that already has the desired typeface.
Can the gift be shipped directly to the recipient?
Usually yes. Provide the correct delivery address, telephone number and deadline, and tell us whether any invoice or price information must be handled separately.
Does express shipping make preparation faster?
No. Express shipping accelerates transit after collection. It does not shorten the workshop preparation time.
