Six simple habits protect almost every manual typewriter. Save the deeper work for the full guide—or for the workbench.
A typewriter asks for very little: paper beneath the type, a dry place, a fresh ribbon and a gentle hand. The important part is recognising when ordinary care ends and repair begins.
Never type directly onto a bare platen. Add a second backing sheet if the rubber feels especially hard.
Keep drinks away and avoid damp walls, open coastal windows, direct sun and sudden temperature changes.
Remove paper fibre, eraser crumbs and visible dust with a soft brush. If air is used, keep it low-pressure and controlled.
If the print turns grey, check the colour selector and threading, then replace the ribbon. Do not compensate by striking harder.
After typing, cover or case the machine only when it is clean and completely dry.
Use the carriage release when moving the carriage by hand. Stop when a key, lever, knob or carriage resists.

El Granero Typewriter Company · Fuengirola, Málaga · Type What You Love
"I had a wonderful experience with El Granero, which must surely rank among the best typewriter companies in Europe, if not the best! Ania and Jacek were encouraging from the beginning and kindly invited me to visit their lovely Atelier in Fuengirola. Although very busy with orders, they prioritised my selection and got it ready in a matter of hours so I could take it with me. All in all it was a terrific experience, and when I want to add to my collection, it will certainly be at El Granero. Thank you Ania and Jacek!"
